Ibadah

 

Assalamu'alaikum everyone! Today I would like to share about Ibadah. So, what is ibadah?

Literal: To serve, to submit, or to adore someone or something 

Technical: To a total and unconditional submission of a man's wills and actions to the will and command of Allah to get His pleasure in this world and the next world.

Types of Ibadah

1. Ibadah Al-Khassah: Refers to the ibadah which Allah S.W.T makes as obligatory upon Muslims.

Ex: Fasting the whole month of Ramadan.

2. Ibadah Al-Ammah: Refers to all the positive and good activities of an individual.

Ex: Seeking knowledge.

Purposes of Ibadah

1. Fulfilment of human supreme function.

- The purpose of a man's life is worshipping Allah by accepting Allah's Will over his own at each stage of his life.

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ ٥٦

I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.

2. Gratitude for the Divine Bounties (blessings)

-Allah has also created everything that man needs to fulfil his basic needs so man is expected to be grateful to Allah for all these blessings.

3. Realisation of true human freedom.

-It frees him from being enslaved by others. When he prostrates before Allah, he only takes instructions from his Creator.

4. Seeking Divine Protection.

ٱتْلُ مَآ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗ وَلَذِكْرُ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ ٤٥

Recite what has been revealed to you of the book and establish prayer. Indeed, genuine prayer should deter one from indecency and wickedness. The remembrance of Allah is an even greater deterrent. And Allah fully knows what you all do.

-A man is not free from committing mistakes and sins. He could submit to Shaytan or his desires. Performing ibadah helps to remind him of the presence of Allah constantly which in turn shields him from committing those evil deeds.
